How to Pass the Drivers Road Test

Overseas Licence Conversions | Drivers Road Test

Please ensure you get a few Driving Lessons before your Test! This will definitely be money well spent because driving conditions as well as road rules can be quite different from one country to the next. So be prepared!

Even though you may have been driving for 20+ years in your own country this may not be helpful when you come to do your Driving Test here. In fact, you have probably developed several bad habits that will not be tolerated by the Testing Examiners.

In particular, make certain that you check your
Blind Spot before doing a lane change (the indicator must be on for at least 3 seconds before changing the lane) or when leaving the kerb (the indicator must be on for at least 5 seconds before leaving the kerb). You should always check your Right Blind Spot (over right shoulder) just as you leave the kerb. Whenever you are doing a lane change, always check the respective wing mirror for the direction you wish to go, as well as the main rear view mirror.

Whether you are doing a lane change or leaving the kerb always adopt the following procedure:
1. First check mirrors (rear view mirror and relevant wing mirror),
2. Turn on the respective indicator for the direction you wish to go, and then finally
3. Check your Blind Spot just prior to changing the lane (or leaving the kerb).
4. Make certain that you are watching forward when doing the lane change. And avoid moving into the other lane whilst watching in your Blind Spot (remember you should be watching where you are going at all times).

Whenever you are reversing please make certain that you are checking over your left shoulder for pedestrians who may attempt to cross the road immediately behind you! Always look in the direction that you are travelling in. Thus if you are reversing, look over your left shoulder (
Blind Spot) for pedestrians.

Observation is just as important as doing the correct manoeuvre. So check first and then check a second time.

Remember the old adage: "If you can't See - Don't Go !!!"

Intersections controlled by Traffic Lights:

When you are first in the queue waiting at lights and the light goes Green, always check left and right before progressing into the intersections for vehicles who may attempt to run the Red light.

Please note: If during your Driving Test you miss 3 or more observation checks you will be FAILED !!!!!
